History Recognizing the Melanin Wonder Zozibini Tunzi Miss Universe 2019! Published 2 months ago on 10/12/2019 By Melanin Wonder 2019 has been on fire for the Melanin Community! This is the first time in the entire world’s history that all four major titles in the Beauty Pageants have belonged to black women. Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina holds the title of Miss USA, Nia Franklin of New York holds the title of Miss America, Kaliegh Garris of California holds the title of Miss Teen USA and now Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa has joined the ranks as the recipient of title of Miss Universe 2019. This isn’t the first title for Zozibini Tunzi. In 2019 she also won the title of Miss South Africa. This achievement granted her the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Universe held at the magnificent Tyler Perry Studios. This is the first time in 8 years that a Black Melanated woman has held the title of Miss Universe. Zozibini Tunzi said in her Twitter statement: “Tonight a door was opened and I could not be more grateful to have been the one to have walked through it. May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine. I am #MissUniverse2019.” The statement is so powerful!
