Who are you? Tell us a bit about yourself?
My Name Is Omar Parkman, I am 22 Years old, I am half Nigerian and African american. I was raised In Boston, Massachusetts by my single mother. I come from a family of six children all together. I Still currently reside in the Boston area.
What are you passionate about?
I am currently passionate about motivating others to be the best versions of themselves. Being an example or even a role model would be a privilege. I am a very positive and optimistic guy. Also, do I love uplifting people around me.
What is your profession?
I am a model, stylist and a style influencer.
How long have you been modeling and styling?
I have been been modeling for about 4 to 5 years now and I have been styling for just a little over a year now. Don’t let the before mentioned time span fool you, I have been doing my thing!
I do my thing!!
What is your favorite fashion trend for men at the moment?
My favorite men’s trend right now are the mixed prints in general. Before this trend, there were specific rules to moving prints and the combinations of these different prints. Now, all of it has been thrown out the window and we can mix multiple prints or patterns. I love it! Also, do I love sandals! Especially the sandals worn with traditional suits. I am a big fan of that.
Have you considered entering modelling competitions or shows?
I actually haven’t considered any competitions, no. But I have been in various fashion shows ever since I was 17 years old.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I see myself living in New York, California or, Miami. I would still be modeling but with one foot heavily set into my own business. I would like to have investors that I will work with to promote my line of Men’s classical shoes. Perhaps I would be married, God works in mysterious ways!
Does this Nigerian have other hobbies or crazy habits?
I actually love to workout and as nerdy as it sounds, I love to learn from other people. I always like to meet new people and pick their brain. I believe one can learn something from anyone.
What does Melanin mean to you?
That is easy! Melanin to me means Sun Kissed. Blessed by the sun with the most attractive, exotic, smooth skin. To me Melanin represents beauty, empowerment, strength, and so much more.
What tips do you have for models that are just starting out?
Never give up when you truly want something in life. The (model) industry is cut throat and very harsh at times. But people are breaking barriers left and right in the industry. So what I would advise is; keep trying, keep learning and, most importantly keep growing.
Do you think a Melanin Wonder Platform is necessary?
I 100% believe it is necessary. It is important because from a young age the majority of Black, Hispanic, and other minority Melanin filled people, have been brainwashed to hate themselves and their skin tones. Society tell us that our skin tone and features are undesirable to the people. It is high time to own the skin we are in and celebrate ourselves like no one is watching, apologetically.
Do you think there is enough diversity in modelling world?
I think the industry is taking a turn for the better. More and more diversity is definitely occurring within the industry which is a good thing.
What Melanin Wonder do you look up to in the fashion world?
I Love Duckie (model), Winnie Harlow (Model with a skin deficit) Rihanna and, A$AP Rocky. Duckie, because her dark complexion matched with her strong features makes her a force to be reckoned with. Winnie Harlow, because of being one of the first models to have a skin deficit like Vitiligo and breaking all model barriers within the modeling industry. Rihanna, for her fashion sense and beauty and, A$AP rocky, for being a young rapper from the hood who also knows how to present himself in a dapper way.
